Augharnath Temple The Augharnath Temple in Meerut, also known as the Kali Paltan Mandir, is the oldest Shiva temple in the city and also the most frequented. The Shiva Linga at this temple is believed to be a Swayambhu (self-manifested), making it a popular attraction among the devotees of Lord Shiva. The temple’s historical significance stems out from the fact that it played an important role during the Freedom Struggle. Apart from the Shiva Linga, there are shrines for Radha Krishna and Goddess Durga at the temple. Being a predominantly Shiva Temple, the Augharnath Temple is flocked by hundreds of devotees on occasions like Mahashivratri and Purnima.

This temple can be seen only if you decide to do parikrama on foot :) The 9-10 kms parikrama comes to a point, which marks half of the journey done. This is like mid point of circumambulation. There is an ashram here. I think they too reached place on foot. Not sure. But place is good and experience is awesome. The temple has big Shiv Ling that is said to be broken by some ruler before. climb up the stairs and enjoy the view of the huge shiv ling inside
